1.What is SASE, and why are organizations moving toward it?

SASE, pronounced 'sassy', combines network connectivity and security capabilities into a single cloud-delivered service. It brings together SD-WAN, Zero Trust Network Access, Cloud Access Security Broker, Secure Web Gateway, and firewall capabilities that used to require separate products and hardware appliances. Organizations are moving toward SASE because it simplifies their architecture, reduces the number of vendors they manage, and delivers better performance for cloud applications compared to routing all traffic through a central data center.

2.How is SASE different from a traditional VPN setup?

A traditional VPN routes all remote traffic back through your corporate network before sending it to its destination. This creates bottlenecks, increases latency, and puts a lot of load on your infrastructure. SASE allows users to connect directly to cloud applications and internet resources while security policies are enforced in the cloud, close to where the user is. The experience is faster and the security is more consistent, regardless of where the user is connecting from.

3.We have multiple branch offices. How does SASE help us?

SASE is particularly well suited to distributed organizations. Rather than maintaining expensive MPLS connections between branch offices or shipping security appliances to each location, SASE delivers consistent networking and security from the cloud to every location. Branch offices connect to the SASE platform and get the same security policies, application access, and visibility as headquarters, without the complexity and cost of traditional WAN infrastructure.

CASB is a core SASE component because so much of modern work happens in cloud applications, and you need security controls that follow the data wherever it goes.

A focused initial deployment covering remote user access and basic cloud security can often be completed within a few months.
